Since the 1st Exhibition of the Plastic Arts of Embu in 1964 uniting several known artists' works, the art being produced in the city becomes domestically and internationally recognized. 
On January, 31, 1969, the Arts and Handicraft Fair was created in front of the Main Church, today Sacred Art Museum.  During its thirty-three years, the Fair was extending to all streets in the Historic Center - now 'Passeio das Artes'. Simultaneously to the Fair development, several handicraft stores, art galleries, antique shops, and handicraft furniture appeared, therefore the city became known as  Embu das Artes.
The traditional Arts Fair of Embu has large variety of handicraft products, arts works, also called "industrianato". The Green Fair, previously located at 'Praça da Lagoa' now is located at Rua Siqueira Campos, increasing the diversity of the offered products together with the foods and beverages tends.

The Tourist and Exhibitor Service Center of the Tourism Department is located at  Largo 21 de Abril and the Restrooms at Rua Joaquim Santana.

Arts and Handicraft Fair composition 
This comprises nearly  600 exhibitors. Most exhibitors are concentrated on Sundays and holidays. On Sundays, there are less exhibitors and tourists at the Fair. 

Tourist Interests
In addition to the Fair, visitors have several stores opened in weekends and holidays, specially the rustic furniture (Av. Elias Yazbek, at the city main entrance, from Rodovia Régis Bittencourt), antique and handicraft shops in the historic center. Among the visit, culture and entertainment options the city offers, the Embu das Artes (Largo 21 de Abril, 29 - Centro) should be detached, as well as Sakai Memorial of Embu (Rua Rebolo Gonzales, 185 - Cercado Grande) and "Francisco Rizzo" Lake Park (Avenida Alberto Giosa, 300 - Centro).
Do not miss the Sacred Art Museum, XVIII century building comprising the city historic assets and located at the central region, Indian Museum (Rua da Matriz, 54 - Centro) and São Lázaro Chapel (Rua da Matriz, s/nº - Centro).

Antique shops
Embu cultural excitement, especially from the beginning of 60's, has caused the visit of numberless people to the city who are interested on the city historical assets, also potential collectors and consumers of antique furniture and objects. 
Due to such potential, several stores appear in the city specialized in antiques.  Embu has now nearly 30 antique shops in the central region of the city, offering numberless pieces to people with high historic and artistic value. 

Arts
The arrival of numberless important artists to the city from 1920 on, Embu consolidates its outstanding position in the domestic artistic scenario. Now the city has several ateliers, where the painters, sculptors, blacksmith, engravers, and goldsmith produce beautiful and nice works enchanting thousands of tourists visiting Embu weekly. 

However, Embu traditional culture is not ensure only by the plastic arts, the city also is known by the dance, theater, music, poetry, such exhibitions could be seen in several public spaces in the city, such as City Libraries and Embu das Artes Cultural Center. 




Handicraft
In view of the start of the Arts and Handicraft Fair of Embu in 1969, several craftsmen took the beauty of their works to the streets in the historic center of the city, thus attracting more and more people, looking for city souvenir. 
Now thousand of craftsmen exhibit their works in the city, and offer a large variety to people:  small jewels, porcelain, musical instruments, sofas, baskets, clothes, lacework and several useful or simply decorative objects  attracting the attention of people passing by the streets in the historic center of  Embu das Artes.

Ornamental Plants
Starting on 1940, many Japanese immigrants arrived in Embu. Such workers, were mainly in ranches and small farms located in the green belt (at the outskirts) of the city. They produced many flowers and ornamental plants in addition to the farm products. 
Now, after Holambra, the city is among the main supplier of flowers and ornamental plants trade in Ceagesp. Part of such exuberant production could be seen and purchased every Sunday at Green Fair also in Embu center, become one more attraction of the city. 

Rustic Furniture 
Furniture sector in Embu gained its first shape in 1960, stimulated mainly by South immigrants, bringing their rustic furniture to the city, which are carefully worked in wood, providing strength and endurance to the pieces produced in the city. 
Embu has now nearly 60 furniture stores installed along Avenida Elias Yazbek, connecting  BR 116 to downtown, thus offering a large variety of  furniture options for consumer, to all home spaces, from bedroom to garden.
